Two new scholarships

We have two new scholarships
to allow those who need some help to attend
Stage Lighting Super Saturday.

Sonny Sonnenfeld Memorial Scholarship
 
Philips, Strand Lighting   Sonny began our workshop, along with Scott Parker, in order to introduce and train young people interested in stage lighting. It is in this tradition that Philips-Strand Lighting has sponsored this scholarship.

Barbizon Educational Scholarship
 

 

The Barbizon Lighting Company will sponsor multiple scholarships for students attending Stage Lighting Super Saturday

"Developing programs that provide educational opportunities for the next generation of the lighting industry is a priority for Barbizon Lighting and has long been one of our guiding principles," said Barbizon Lighting's President and CEO Tom Madden. "These scholarships provide access and financial support to students who show promise and passion in the field but are not otherwise able to afford admission. The experience allows these promising students the rare opportunity to glean wisdom and inspiration from accomplished industry veterans. Barbizon Lighting hopes these scholarship recipients will someday grow into the industry-leading lighting designers that we see and read about."

Brian MacDevitt joins Stage Lighting Super Saturday

Five time Tony winner Brian MacDevitt joins Stage Lighting Super Saturday 2018 for morning group session with Jennifer Tipton. Scott Parker says "I'm thrilled that Brain will be joining Natasha Katz and Ken Billington for this terrific session Jennifer has put together. What a fantastic session to start off Stage Lighting Super Saturday in NYC on Jan. 13th 2018."
Mr. MacDevitt is a Five-time recipient of the Tony Award for Best Lighting Design for Book of Mormon(2011), Joe Turner's Come and Gone (2009), The Coast of Utopia(2007), The Pillowman (2005), and Into the Woods (2002); OBIE, Bessie (with Tere O'Connor), Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics' Circle, Hewes, and Drama Desk Awards.

Sonny Sonnenfeld tribute via Lighting and Sound America

Sonny Sonnenfeld lived a full life and passed away at 96

SonnyIndustry icon Sonny Sonnenfeld died today. He was 96. In 2014, Lighting&Sound America wrote, "There is no more indelible personality in the lighting industry than Sonny Sonnenfeld." The legendary salesman and educator mentored many of the key figures in today's lighting industry and participated in the startup of many key industry companies. He was also a commentator (and sometime gadfly) for many industry publications.

Super Saturday is being held at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts at 721 Broadway, between Waverly and Washington Places, in NYC.
